Visit your child’s school on MondayAll public schools in Culpeper County will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on August 8 for student and parent visits.

The first day of school is August 10.

School council meetings this weekThe Culpeper County School Board Finance Committee will meet at 5:15 p.m. on August 8 at the County Administration, 302 N. Main St.

The regular school board meeting will follow at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Upcoming events for Aging TogetherThe five-county nonprofit service area for seniors offers a range of upcoming and free events and programs.

Aging Together will host a Rappahannock exhibit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 10 at Rapp at Home, 567 Mt. Salem Ave. in Washington, Virginia.

Free admission for vendors, information and activities for seniors and their families.

Anniversary celebration at the SEE CenterThe Culpeper Chamber of Commerce will join Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services this week in celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Support, Encourage & Empower Recovery Center, located at 710 US Ave. in the town of Culpeper.

The ceremonial ribbon will be cut on site at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10. The rally will also celebrate 10,000 visits to the center in its first year of providing support as a drop-in center for mental health and addiction services.

Fall Career Fair at CETCCulpeper County Public Schools and Virginia Career Works Culpeper Center will host their second annual fall hiring event from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, August 20 inside the Culpeper Technical Education Center, 17441 Frank Turnage Dr., at next to Germanna Community College.

Job seekers can talk to 20 local employers who offer 200 career opportunities.

Carnival, parade this week in BrandyA summer tradition, the annual Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Dept. kicks off at 6 p.m. this Wednesday midway along Fleetwood Heights Road.

The parade will take place from 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 11.

The fair takes place from Wednesday to Saturday August 13 in Brandy. Cole Shows will feature more than 20 rides, games and food, including funnel cakes, popcorn, cotton candy and candied apples.

Live music each halfway night will begin with Dark Hollow Blue Grass Band on Wednesday; ‘CJ tha’ DJ’ Thursday; Friday Night Special on Friday and Reborn Band on Saturday night.

On Saturday, August 13, the annual lawn and garden tractor draw will begin at 10 a.m., free. Cash prizes as well as many other prizes will be offered on Saturday evening.

The Brandy Station Fairgrounds is located at 20057 Fleetwood Heights Road in Brandy Station. There is no charge to enter the fairgrounds and there are plenty of free parking spaces.

Hours of operation will be 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; From 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and from 1 p.m. to midnight on Saturday.
