Multinational Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) provider MindChamps has appointed Wholesome Child’s Mandy Sacher as Global Director of Nutrition (CNO), a move that would be the first time a CNO position has been appointed for a major supplier.

Ms. Sacher is a pediatric nutritionist and author with experience supporting families and ECEC services to improve the nutritional status of the children in their care. She is also known for her role in the co-development of a childhood obesity prevention and treatment program known as MEND (Mind Exercise Nutrition Do It!)

Based in the UK, MEND was developed with over 10 years of research and has been deployed in Australia, New Zealand and the USA, working with over 130,000 children and parents on implementing behaviors healthier foods.

In the first phase of her role as Global Chief Nutrition Officer, she will begin training MindChamps chefs in Australia to provide a nutritional meal plan to every MindChamps child.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mandy to our global MindChamps family,” said Founder, CEO and Executive Chairman David Chiem, noting that one of the biggest gaps in today’s society is understanding nutrition.

“In fact, most of us have a bad mindset and are ‘nutrition illiterate’,” he said, “and there’s no better time to fill that gap. only from the earliest years.

By elevating nutrition to the CSuite level alongside the CEO, CFO and COO, he continued, MindChamps is making a deliberate and decisive effort to elevate its status as a priority for the ECEC. .

With the appointment of this role ongoing for over seven years, Mandy, as NOC, will create a whole foods nutrition literacy program that will impact our educators, cooks, parents, children and society. in general.

Ms Sacher said she was proud to join MindChamps and lead the way in a food revolution for children where poor quality food in care is no longer acceptable.

Many facets of Australia’s ECEC sector, she continued, view food as “an afterthought and not a goal”.

“A lot of areas need to be addressed in childcare, including the rise in food allergies, the use of poor quality ingredients and the lack of training for cooks at the center,” Ms Sacher added.

“Having worked with so many families and children for over two decades, and having consulted with many child care centers around the world, it has never been clearer that the way forward lies in fostering understanding and love of good nutrition from an early age.”
