Obituary of David Hurley (1961 – 2021) – Troy, North Carolina
Although he has spent the past seven plus years in a skilled nursing facility, David has led an amazing life! He has held many titles during his life: chef, master grill, firefighter, fire chief, business owner, welder, angler, hunter, husband, brother and father.
Most people will remember David for his “helping” personality – there was no one in the world he would not go out of his way to help. This trend was evident in everything he did, but especially with his work with the Lake Tillery Volunteer Fire Department where David served for six years as a fire chief and a total of 10 years of service with the fire department before his health began to decline.
As a teenager he joined the Troy Fire Department and continued to serve and volunteer with the fire departments until he was no longer able to do so due to his medical condition. . He was truly an artist when it came to metalworking. For 15 years, he owned Hurley’s Ornamental Iron Shop where he worked with his son, Aaron, to make custom wrought iron designs for East Coast shoppers – designs that will stand the test of time.
David was born in Troy, North Carolina on March 28, 1961, to Paul and Amy Davis Hurley. He was the younger brother of three siblings – Gary, Harold and Evelyn.
He is survived by his mother; brothers and sisters; caregiver, Elizabeth; two sons, Aaron and Sam; and his grandson Joshua.
The family will organize a fire department for David at the Lake Tillery Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11 a.m., chaired by Reverend Chip McCauley.
Masks are mandatory for attendance and social distancing is to be expected. The family will spread David’s ashes according to their wishes in a private ceremony.
